Avoid Common Pitfalls Trying to Make Money Online

If you have watched any late night television, you have most certainly seen an infomercial. Lately there has been many infomercials hyping up how easy it is to make money online and to buy some one-of-a-kind system that will lead you to wealth and riches… I decided that I would see if I could supplement my income by trying a few of the home based internet business opportunities I found online by searching.

There are many sites that make huge claims about making money online by only working a couple hours a week. I have found that some of them are nearly complete scams and others are complicated business ventures costing significant money and time to get started.

I came up with a few pitfalls in sorting out the various opportunities. It is very easy to get caught up in spending money to obtain information. When looking into making money online do not pay for information about the opportunity. If someone is charging money for information, there is someone else out there giving it away for free.

One tip I learned was to subscribe to every opt-in list you think is interesting to you.  Often during the course of the automated mailing process, you will get the most important (or beneficial) tidbits of information given to you for free.

In my searching for various online opportunities, I came across quite a few sites that claim that you can make thousands of dollars a week spending a few minutes a day whenever you want to. Most of these sites call themselves data entry opportunities. They tell you that if you can type an email you can do the job and make thousands of dollars a week. The information that is not shared prior to buying into the company is that you need to spend a great deal of money posting the advertisements that you type up.

I paid to learn more about the data entry positions. In the hype portion I was told that all I needed to do was to fill out forms and post them on the internet. I was not told that I first had to pay to get the forms and then had to pay to post them. I also had to research which company had the greatest potential of helping me recoup my money as well as make a profit. It was a very complicated and misleading experience.

The next pitfall that I fell into in trying to make money online was the completion of surveys. This is one the biggest rip offs that are on the internet. For one thing you can join companies to get mailed the surveys without going through a third party. The third party has you pay money then they simply give you the websites of the survey companies. There was one survey that I took that I was paid $1.50 for taking. Only later did I realize the minimum payout was $25. It would take quite a few surveys to actually see any money. This was not for me.

Your very first step to making money online is to find a specific topic that you are passionate about. No matter what opportunity that you choose, you will need to be very interested in the subject at hand. If you are doing something just to make money, you will grow bored and end up moving onto another opportunity that you come across, thus never actually making any money online.

Once you have determined a topic, take action. Register your first domain name. Find a web host. Post your first article. It may not look pretty, but it is a start. You can always go back later and clean things up. Plus, the search engines will reward you for what looks like a fresh website to them.

The sooner you take action, the sooner you can realize your goals.
